About the Owner and
Chief Instructor
One of the nation's top martial arts
instructors, Sa Bum Nim Alberto Friedmann was named the World Martial Arts Hall
Of Fame's 1997 Instructor of The Year, the World Sokeship Council International
Hall Of Fame's 1998 Instructor Of The Year, and the Florida Hall Of Fame
Martial Arts Brotherhood's 1998 Instructor Of The Year and the Florida Hall Of
Fame Martial Arts Brotherhood's 1999 Man Of The Year.
Master
Friedmann, 31, has been studying martial arts since childhood, but it was a
10-month trip to Japan in 1991 that solidified his focus as a martial artist
for life. Owner of the White Dragon, where he acts as a trainer for the local
police force, Friedmann has built a reputation as a community leader as well as
a trainer.
"Martial
arts should be about more than learning forms and movements," Friedmann
said. "It should be about creating better people."
Despite
suffering from Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome, a degenerative joint disease which
leaves him in constant pain, Friedmann holds fourth-degree Master Black Belts
in Tae Kwon Do, Karate and Kobudo, a first-degree in Korea Hakido Federation,
and is a recognized specialist in traditional weaponry. He has gained
recognition for his experimentation with non-traditional weaponry, including
telephones, umbrellas, crutches, chairs and coat racks. Due to his weapons
expertise, he was the youngest man ever named Head of Weaponry for Wa No Michi
Ryu Kobudo.
Master
Friedmann is a seven-time Florida State Karate Champion, and placed sixth in
the nation in 1993. In 1997, he earned a national title by taking first at the
Battle of America. In 1994, he took second place at the U.S. Open, the world's
largest open martial arts tournament. In 1999, he placed fifth in the world for
breaking at the US Open. He has trained several state and national champions,
two Junior Olympic medallists, and two members of the 1998 U.S. National
Children's Tae Kwon Do Team, both of whom won bronze medals at the World Chung
Do Kwan Championships, held in Seoul, Korea.
